Patina Spray Box Set – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. On which surfaces can Patina Spray be used?
It can be used on surfaces that have imitation metal leaf applied, textured (relief) applied, or simply painted.
Tip: It gives the best effect on rough, textured, and uneven surfaces.
2. Is metal leaf necessary, or can I use it without it?
Metal leaf is not mandatory. However, since the effects created on leaf-applied surfaces are much more striking than on plain painted surfaces, we recommend using it on leaf-applied and textured surfaces. Of course, it can also be used on its own.
3. In what order should it be applied? (Paint first or activator first?)
After spraying the paint (Step 1), the activator (Step 2) should be sprayed immediately. There should be no waiting time between the two steps.
4. What is the drying time?
Drying time may vary between 2–6 hours depending on the amount applied. As it dries, you will continue to observe changes in the texture. After 24 hours, you will achieve the final appearance.
5. Do the effects change during drying?
Yes, while waiting for it to dry, you can observe that the colors and textures continue to evolve.
6. How do the effects vary according to the amount of application?
Effects vary based on the amount of application, but the type of surface is equally important. If you apply it heavily on metal leaf-applied and textured surfaces, cracking and burnt-like effects may appear. On smoother surfaces, a less deformed effect is created.
7. Can different colors be used together?
Yes, they can. This is a technique we often use to create depth and shadows.
For example, when using green and rust colors:
First apply the green where you want green tones.
Then apply the rust color where you want a rusty effect.
Finally, activate both with the same activator spray.
8. Is a protective varnish needed after application?
No, we do not recommend applying varnish, as it could diminish the texture and alter the antique look of the product.
9. Is it suitable for outdoor use?
It is designed for indoor applications. It is not suitable for contact with water and moisture.
10. Which gives a more impressive result: metallic paint or imitation metal leaf?
Imitation metal leaf provides a much more striking result.
11. Approximately how many projects can be completed with one box set?
Since the product is in liquid and spray form, it can easily be used for multiple projects.
12. Can layers be applied to enhance the patina effect?
Yes, you can, even after the previous layer has dried.
